Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 was an American politician as well as a lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in the history of America. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was the state's attorney general from 2011 to 2017 and as a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descholaring for cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
